Being forced into online learning has left many students with problems concerning their education. A lack of internet access, the troubles of having a working computer, as well as keeping yourself focused are problems that most students have had to deal with in the past few weeks. With the COVID-19 disease running rampant around the world, these computer problems, as well as staying the mandated six feet apart, has pushed some to miss actually going to school. The following are some ways to make social distancing a little easier for all of us.

A good way to keep your laptop working in the midst of this crisis is by improving your cyber security on your laptop, making it run faster and more efficiently. Some ways to improve your cyber security include making sure you use strong passwords for your accounts. You could even go so far as to only sign in with your school accounts on the laptop you use for online learning. Another good idea is to keep all applications and websites regularly updated and to keep your laptop secure, if you use a laptop other than that which is provided by the school, it might be a good idea to download an internet security provider to keep it safe.

As for internet access, our principal, Mrs Fordyce, has sent out many emails talking about wifi hotspots around the county. If you live in town then you will be able to find one such hotspot at the public library. If you don’t live in Hiawatha, check your email or message a friend or Mrs Fordyce for information as to where your hotspot might be located. For other information regarding internet access you can talk to Mrs Frodyce or members of the school’s tech team.

To help you stay focused while learning online, here are some tips and tricks for you to try. First, try finding the time of day when you are the most productive so that you can stay motivated and keep from procrastinating. Find out what in the room is a distraction to you and promptly remove the distractions from the room. Finally, make sure to maintain a healthy sleep schedule. Just because you don't have to worry about going to school in the morning doesn’t mean that upsetting your sleep schedule won't affect your learning. Keep a healthy sleep schedule so that your energy is up and you are focused.
