Video Game Review: Life is Strange

Writer's picture: Hawk-Eye Publications Hawk-Eye Publications

With great power comes great responsibility, and unfortunately for Max, this is all too true. In Life is Strange you play as Max Caulfield, a high schooler returning to her hometown after moving when she was 13. However, after witnessing a traumatic event, she develops an ability to reverse time and if faced with many decisions that alter the way her life plays out. The recommended age for this action and adventure game is M for Mature, and is available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS and Android. It consists of five episodes, all with different outcomes based on the decisions you make in previous episodes. These episodes are generally bundled across all platforms, coming in at $20 (taxes not included).

Without revealing too much about this game, I can say anyone looking to be surprised on more than one occasion would very much enjoy this game. All actions have consequences, no matter how small. This game also presents you with a clear objective, but you can still control your next steps, and what you choose to interact with. This game teaches the player a lot about friendship, the power of words/actions, and most importantly, not to judge people just based on what you see or hear.

That all being said, I do not recommend this to anyone who has issues seeing or hearing about depression, suicide, or substance abuse, and if they choose to play anyway to talk to an adult if they wish to talk more on the subject/s. I would encourage anyone playing this game to not only have fun while playing, but to also consider the messages presented within it, both light-hearted and not so much. I will leave you on this note; WATER YOUR PLANT!
