Useful Quarantine Skills and Hobbies

As quarantine drags on, it's easy to run out of things to do while sitting around the house. Because of this, I have compiled a list of skills to learn while COVID keeps us six feet apart. This list is fairly short but will hopefully make passing time and being productive a little easier.

The first skill that you should learn to do while in quarantine is baking. Baking can be really helpful when the holidays arrive. This skill can also be helpful if you need an inexpensive gift for someone or if you just want to satisfy your sweet tooth. Recipes for almost any dessert can be found online but if you are having trouble finding something to bake, consider the following; cookies, cake, brownies, cupcakes, or even cinnamon rolls.

Another skill it wouldn’t hurt to learn while looking for something to do is sewing. While this skill might not seem very helpful to you, it actually has more benefits to it than you might think. A lot of benefits that come with sewing have the opportunity to present themselves when you move out of your house, to college or otherwise. From small holes in your clothes to making new clothing articles entirely, learning to sew provides major benefits when in trouble.

The last skill on this list is how to take care of yourself. Whether you take this as personal care, physical care, or even learning how to defend yourself in the event of an attack, it wouldn’t hurt to know. Physical care might involve exercise, taking your medication on time, or knowing how and when to seek medical care. Personal care may include practicing personal hygiene, doing things for yourself like painting your nails or getting a haircut, and maintaining a good sleep schedule.

Remember to stay safe during quarantine and to keep yourself busy, if not with these skills then some of your own. It couldn’t hurt to find a new hobby or even spend time with your family during these trying times. Stay healthy, physically and mentally, and remain productive!
