Snowy conditions throughout the week did nothing to dampen the excitement at McClouth: The Red Hawks are on fire.

The boy’s basketball team clinched the tournament title with a trio of impressive wins, all of which were against teams seeded higher than them in the bracket.

The streak started on Tuesday, Jan. 21, with HHS defeating Jefferson West with a score of 64-51.

On Thursday the 23rd, the fifth-seeded Red Hawks played the first-seeded Maur Hill in the semifinals of the tournament. Though the Hawks were defeated in last year’s sub state championship by Maur Hill, the Hawks returned with a vengeance with a decisive 60-34 victory.

In the championship game, the Hawks battled Cair Paravel for the tournament title. Though Hiawatha won 72-53 and thus were named tournament champions, that was not the only victory of the night.

Seniors Sage Meyer and Tyler Brockhoff were both named to the All Tournament Team. Brockhoff was also awarded Tournament MVP.

The Hawks look to continue their success on Friday, January 31st, as they play Horton at home. The JV game will start at 6:00 p.m, with the Varsity game to follow.
