Unsung Heroes

It is a crazy world we live in now. As we all sit in our homes, it is hard to ignore the bad news. With the number of COVID-19 cases and death rising everyday and many businesses closing, it may seem like nothing good is happening, but I can assure you of quite the opposite.

I would like to start by addressing some lesser appreciated heros. First, our teachers and staff. With a short window of time, many of them reformatted their entire curriculum to be able to be accessed online. Our teachers have been introduced with new programs and along with them new problems, taking time out of their own lives to better ours. We also have to be grateful for our IT guys, because without them we’d all be nowhere. From parades to delivering food to those who need it, if a time ever showed that education staff really does care about their students, it’s now.

Another group of heros are our grocery store, gas station, and all other essential workers. These people risk their health by making sure we can get what we need, whether they are stocking shelves, delivering food, or fixing your car, they are doing it to make sure we all have what we need to survive.

We also have all the volunteers working at places like the Humane Society and also people fostering animals, who are caring for these creatures in times of need.

As it is custom to save the best for last, I have to recognize the most vital of these heros, the healthcare professionals. Doctors, Nurses, CNA’s, and everyone in between on the front lines of this health battle. With the limited amount of resources they have, these people have been working non-stop to provide healthcare to those who need it. This does not only mean those who have Coronavirus, but also those in nursing homes and other healthcare facilities.

As Mr. Rogers famously said; “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
